Maria + Amy's Joint Baby Shower Invitations

Megan and I first met at a dinner on New Year's Day to celebrate a mutual friend's birthday.  Being the organized, well-prepared, and awesome sister and sister-in-law that she is, she contacted me near the end of January about designing invitations for a June baby shower.

This wasn't going to be just any baby shower- Megan was planning a joint baby shower for both her sister and her sister-in-law who are expecting to become mommas at the same time (their due dates are only two days apart!).  I had never heard of this idea before but immediately I thought it was cool.  It only makes sense to have one big shower when almost all of the guests are family and would be going to both girls' showers anyway.  Now for the tricky part- planning a shower and designing an invitation for two moms-to-be that reflect both of their personalities/tastes AND two different genders (one is expecting a boy and the other a girl!)... AND making it all work together without one overshadowing the other:
  • Maria is expecting a baby boy and loves things that are more modern.  She's a graphic artist and lives in a contemporary loft.
  • Amy is expecting a baby girl and tends to be more traditional.  She loves pink and polka dots.
We ended up creating a gatefold style invitation- the outside of the invitation features pink, blue, and black polka dots and has two flaps or "gates" that open to reveal a center invitation panel with all of the shower details.  The inside of each gate reveals each mom's registry information.  The baby carriage motif featured on the invitation is a traditional baby shower element (what could be more classic than a baby buggy?) but got updated with a modern, graphic silhouette.  Amy's love of polka dots was reflected in the pattern covering the invitations- and it allowed a way to marry the "boyish" blue with the "girlish" pink, uniting both colors with bold, modern black.  See how it all came together to form these adorable and unique invitations:

A square seal kept the front of the invitation closed and featured "boy" and "girl" baby buggies with their handles intertwined in a heart shape : )

Thanks so much Megan!  You have such creative ideas and it was a pleasure working with you!  And many congratulations and blessings to the moms-to-be!

Have you ever been to a joint shower?  What kind of theme was it?

Liz's Whimsical Baby Shower Invitations

A couple of months ago Liz's sister and sister-in-law contacted me about creating the invitations for Liz's baby shower.  Liz will be welcoming a baby girl in January and she knew exactly what she wanted for baby Alaina's shower: a "you are my sunshine" theme in pink, yellow, and green, with lots of flowers.  Her hosts took her ideas and ran with them to create an adorable party perfect for welcoming a baby girl into the family.

Here's a peek at the invitations:
